Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain joined at Southeast University as a Pro-Vice Chancellor on 18 April 2024. He earned his B.Sc. Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, and Masters and Ph.D. from Kanazawa University, Japan in 1993, 2000 and 2003 respectively.


Education and Professional Journey

Before joining Southeast University, Professor Hossain held positions as the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). With nearly three decades of experience in teaching, research, and administration, his career spans various prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally. Commencing his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (formerly Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong) in April 1994, he progressed to the role of Assistant Professor until April 2008. During his tenure, he also served as the Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department and Provost of Ladies Hall. From May 2008 to December 2018, Professor Hossain contributed to East West University, Dhaka, serving as the Chairperson of the ECE Department and later as the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering. Additionally, he held various responsibilities including membership in the Syndicate, Academic Council, and Finance Committee. He further enriched his academic experience as a visiting postdoctoral research fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, from November 2005 to November 2007, and as a JASSO fellow at Kanazawa University in 2014.

Research & Academic Involvement

Throughout his career, Professor Hossain has supervised numerous final year thesis/project students and graduate students, demonstrating his commitment to academic mentorship. His research interests encompass a wide array of topics such as Solar Photovoltaics, Electric Vehicles, Power Grid, Climate action, and engineering education policies. He has authored over 90 articles in peer-reviewed International Journals and Conferences, including IEEE Transaction on Plasma Science, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, Thin Solid Films, Chemical Engineering Journal, Applied Solar Energy, Physics of Plasmas, Plasma Sources Science and Technology, Transaction of Materials Research Society of Japan, Computer Networks, Internet of Things etc. He attended different international conferences/seminars home and abroad, and visited Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, UK, and USA. He has been serving in different international conferences in various capacities. He served as the member of Technical Program Committee, Track-Chair, Session Chairs, International Program Committee Members, Editorial Board Members, and Reviewer in more than 30 international journals and conferences. Prof. Hossain has also been serving as an external member of faculty selection committee in different universities in Bangladesh.


Engagement Beyond Academia

Professor Hossain's engagement extends beyond academia, as evidenced by his active involvement with professional organizations like IEEE, where he holds the status of a senior member. He is also a fellow of JSPS and JASSO. Moreover, he contributes to the enhancement of engineering education through his participation in BAETE, IEB, and various accreditation committees.


As a distinguished resource person, Professor Hossain imparts knowledge on Outcome Based Education (OBE), OBE Curriculum Development, and Accreditation Processes through lectures delivered in webinars and workshops organized by different universities. His dedication to advancing education and research underscores his pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape.
